A JOURNALIST whose beating last week revived concerns about press freedom in Russia has awoken from a drug-induced coma.

Oleg Kashin was attacked near his Moscow home last Saturday. Doctors put him to sleep to protect his brain. He also broke a leg and several fingers. He remains attached to a ventilator, wife Yevgeniya said.
