RESIDENTS in the Lothians are being urged to remain vigilant following another e-mail scam requesting bank details.

An e-mail claiming to be from the Royal Bank of Scotland states that the recipient’s customer number has been temporarily locked due to unusual account activity. It requests that the person logs on to RBS Digital Banking and changes the Pin and password details.

A spokeswoman for RBS said: “E-mail phishing is an attempt to use a fraudulent communication to extract someone’s personal details given in good faith. We never ask customers for their full Pin and password in an e-mail and ask anyone receiving an e-mail they are unsure of not to click on any of the links it contains, and to forward it to [email protected].

“We have an online phishing guide which offers further help and advice.”
