Royal Bank of Scotland has cancelled plans for a prestigious corporate event at Gleneagles Hotel today which would have seen guests receive a masterclass from Jack Nicklaus.

RBS said the decision to scrap it was the “right thing” to do by its customers, reasoning that staff were too busy dealing with the repercussions of last week’s IT problems. The bank has also cancelled its corporate hospitality at Wimbledon.

It remains unclear whether the event with Nicklaus, who enjoyed a long-standing relationship with RBS, will be rescheduled. Around 60 people were due to attend the golf day, which would have seen guests enjoy a round of golf before dinner and an overnight stay.

An RBS spokesman said the cancellation was not due to adverse publicity surrounding the bank, which has seen hosts of customers express their anger about being unable to access their money.
