Band to get Hogmanay party started

A YOUNG Scottish band is set to share the stage with more established acts during the city's Hogmanay celebrations.

Kitty the Lion, who do not have a record deal, will open for The Coral, Newton Faulkner and Treacherous Orchestra on the Waverley Stage.

The band won the coveted slot after taking part in the Hog the Stage competition to find young talent.

Singer Anna Meldrum said: "We are happy as hogs to be part of Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations.

"No Scot could aspire to more and it will be the perfect way to round off what has been an exciting year for us."

Stuart Nisbet, one of the event's organisers, said: "The Hog the Stage live final was an amazing night, all the bands played their hearts out and the support from the crowd was electric.

But there can only be one winner and Kitty the Lion will be a great way to kick-start the Street Party."
