Bakery faces administration as 67 lose jobs

A BAKERY in East Lothian has gone into administration, resulting in the loss of 67 jobs.

Blair Nimmo and Tony Friar of KPMG were yesterday appointed joint administrators of Fords Bakery Ltd.

The Prestonpans-based bakery and confectionery producer, which had an annual turnover of 5 million, supplied supermarkets, food service companies and independent bakeries in East and Central Scotland.

At the time of appointment, 26 of the company's employees were made redundant, with a remaining 87 employees kept on to assist the joint administrators.

The associated retailed company, Fords Retail Limited, was also placed in administration with the loss of 41 jobs.

The administrators are now inviting offers for the business as a going concern. Mr Nimmo, head of restructuring for KPMG in Scotland, said: "It has suffered from the downturn and difficult economic conditions."
