Baker on a roll with prizes just months after break-in

A MASTER baker who was robbed by a crowbar-wielding gang months after opening his business has been honoured with two prestigious bakery prizes.

James Lynch, 32, of Edinburgh Bakehouse, won a silver regional award for his morning rolls, before clinching a national silver award for the same produce.

The baker was presented with his gong by Paul Hollywood, artisan baker and star of The Great British Bake Off, at a ceremony in the Westerwood Hotel in Cumbernauld.

Mr Lynch said: “I didn’t expect to receive an award and am delighted that all my hard work has paid off, especially after the break-in.”

In February, thieves smashed their way into the Newington Road bakery before making off with takings and a charity collection bucket.

Around £1200 was stolen, including £200 set to be donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care.
