Badge thieves sought after vehicles targeted

Police are investigating following a spate of badge thefts from cars in the west of Edinburgh.

The incidents all happened overnight between Saturday and Sunday in the Firrhill and Colinton Mains areas.

A total of 13 vehicles had their logo badges stolen whilst parked in Camus Avenue, Firrhill Drive, Caiystane Gardens, Oxgangs Park, Oxgangs Farm Terrace, Harperigg Way and Pentland Terrace.

The cars affected include a BMW, a Volkswagon Polo, a Fiat Stilo and a Nissan Note.

Officers believe these incidents are linked and are urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.

A police spokesman said: “While this is purely aesthetic damage, it has caused great irritation and inconvenience to the vehicle owners, who will be forced to either pay for a new badge, or go through their insurance.

“Officers are eager to hear from anyone who was in the area of these incidents and who believes they saw anything suspicious, or who can help us identify those responsible.

“We are also urging parents to look out for any of these stolen badges turning up in or around their homes and, if so, to report the matter to police.”
