Baby, you'll be making a big splash

A TWO-month swimming challenge to raise £100,000 is to begin in Edinburgh today.

Hundreds of babies will take to the city's pools over the next eight weeks for the charity Tommy's, which works with Edinburgh University and NHS Lothian to research foetal health and pregnancies.

Parents in the Lothians are being urged to take their tots to pools to embark on challenges which are being run by the organisation Water Babies.

Hugh Davidson, who runs the charity in Scotland, said: "For many parents, the sight of their baby doing their first solo dip underwater, or swimming through a hoop for the first time is a very proud moment.

"Doing it as their first ever fundraising activity makes it particularly special - and whatever they do, we'll make sure they have lots of fun doing it."
