Baby boy’s death is ‘unexplained’

GRAMPIAN Police are continuing their investigation into the unexplained death of a two-month-old boy in Aberdeenshire.

Emergency services were called to a house in Westhill, after the baby’s mother, named locally as Fairlee McGonagle, woke up on Friday to find her eight-week-old son Lucas had stopped breathing.

The baby was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he was pronounced dead.

A spokeswoman for Grampian Police said: “Grampian Police can confirm that officers were called to a house in Broadshade Road, Westhill, at about 8:40am on Friday, 13 January, following the sudden death of a baby.

“The death of a baby boy, who was two months old, is being treated as unexplained.

“The officers are making inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death. As is usual in such circumstances a report will be sent to the procurator-fiscal in due course.”
