Award joy for authors

Three writers from the Capital have all moved one step closer to the dream of having their work published, after being named as the winners of a Scottish Book Trust New Writers Award.

Andrew Sclater from Stockbridge, Richard Strachan from Newhaven and Helen Godfrey from central Edinburgh were among eight recipients of the award, which provides each writer with £2000 and a professional development package, which can include nine months working with a mentor and networking opportunities.

The New Writers Awards are managed by Scottish Book Trust in association with Creative Scotland, and applications are open to Scotland-based writers who have not published a novel, short story or poetry collection and have a commitment to a career in writing.
