Award hope for mum who helped evict terror family

A MOTHER of two who helped evict an antisocial family will learn tonight if she has won an award for her efforts.

Lorna Arthur gave evidence in court for three gruelling days despite threats and stress-related angina.

Her evidence helped Edinburgh City Council secure an eviction order against the Dougan family, who were held responsible for 80 incidents of antisocial behaviour over a period of three years at their home on the Capital's Lady Nairne estate.

She is one of 16 groups and individuals shortlisted for the second Standing Up to Antisocial Behaviour awards which are being hosted by Scottish Deputy Justice Minister Hugh Henry at Edinburgh Castle tonight.

The awards, organised by the Scottish Executive and sponsored by the Co-op, aim to recognise the bravery of those who help challenge the behaviour of others to the benefit of their communities.

Justice Minister Cathy Jamieson and Robin Stewart, director of the Co-op will also join the award winners at the ceremony.

The nominees are split into four categories - Above and Beyond, Individuals, Local Group and Projects, Young Peoples - with the winners receiving 5000 each. The other 12 will get 1000 each.
