Author turns tour guide

Visitors to the National Mining Museum Scotland will now be accompanied on their tour by Scotland’s best-known crime fiction author, Ian Rankin.

The author, born and raised in the Fife Coalfield, is the narrator of a new multimedia guide, funded by Museums Galleries Scotland’s Recognition Scheme, and launched today.

Available free of charge, the state-of-the-art guide is based on Apple iPod hardware and replaces the “Magic Helmets” which have been retired after 12 years.
