Attractions up for art prize

The National Museum of Scotland and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery have been long-listed for the Art Fund Prize 2012.

The UK’s annual “museum of the year” award, and the biggest prize for arts and cultural organisations in the country, the Art Fund Prize gives ten museums the chance to win £100,000 and the prestigious award, which will be announced on June 19.

Dr Gordon Rintoul, National Museums Scotland director, said: “This is clear recognition of the hard work undertaken by the project team and all of our staff to create an outstanding museum experience.”

John Leighton, National Galleries of Scotland director-general, said: “We are extremely pleased and honoured to make the long-list for the Art Fund Prize.”
