Assembly plans slated

THE director of the Assembly Theatre has called on the city council to rethink its plans for the Assembly Rooms.

A redevelopment project for the George Street venue will see the front of the building become retail space, while there will also be a fine dining venue.

William Burdett-Coutts, artistic director of Assembly Theatre said: "We advocate building on what people know works in the building, not throwing the baby out with the bath water to create shops that have limited purpose or appeal."

However, Councillor Steve Cardownie said the comments were "scaremongering".
