Artists tuning up for protest

ARTISTS and performers across the Capital are to stage an eye-catching widespread protest opposing new red tape.

The day of so-called “artistic disobedience” will take place on April Fools’ Day, the day the council measures are set to be introduced, it was reported today.

More than 600 people have joined a Facebook campaign opposing the measures, which require even the smallest, low-profile events to secure a licence. They say that will threaten numerous grassroots events across the city.

Publicity material for the April 1 uprising states: “Find a location and do your thing.

“Publicise it or don’t. Show off your pictures, burst into song, wax poetical, make a scene, find an audience.

“Just don’t apply for a licence.”
