Arrests after diazepam pills found in Edinburgh

Four people have been arrested after police found 62,500 diazepam pills in two raids.

The two men and two women are charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act in connection with the seizure of the prescribed drugs in Edinburgh yesterday and earlier this month.

On October 5 police found about 22,500 diazepam tablets in a flat in the city’s Murrayburn Gardens. Around £2,500 in cash was also found at the address.

As a result, a 42-year-old man was charged over drug offences, along with a 41-year-old woman. Both have appeared in court and the man was remanded in custody, Police Scotland said.

Another search of a property in Broughton Road yesterday saw police seize a further 40,000 diazepam pills.

A 42-year-old man and 26-year-old woman are set to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in connection with the haul.

The total value of the diazepam from both raids is around £62,500, police said. Inspector Stevie Dolan, of Police Scotland, said: “Diazepam is a prescribed drug which should not be taken by anyone other than those required to consume it for health reasons.

“Recovering these pills means we have ensured that they can’t make their way into our communities and be used for reasons other than their prescribed purpose.

“Police Scotland is committed to tackling drug crime and would urge the public to come forward immediately if they wish to report offences of this nature in their local area.”
