Arrest over £1.1m of drugs found in Scotland

Drugs worth a total of around £1.4 million have been recovered by police.

A vehicle carrying 108kg of amphetamine with an estimated value of £1.1 million was stopped on the A74 near Johnstonebridge in Dumfries and Galloway at 9.30am yesterday by Police Scotland officers.

Later that evening, a further 32kg of the same drug, estimated to be worth £320,000, was found at an address in Merseyside as a result of combined efforts by Police Scotland and Merseyside Police.

A 30-year-old man from Merseyside is in custody in connection with both finds. He will be reported to the procurator fiscal and is due to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court at a later date.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Hollis said: “Police Scotland are committed to tackling drug trafficking and with support of our English colleagues, we will continue to pay particular attention on the busy M74 road between England and Scotland.

“Illegal drugs rip families apart and the subsequent ripple effect caused by organised crime is devastating. We will target and pursue anyone involved in such a vile trade with determination and vigour. I am always impressed with the support our communities play in reporting criminals and would urge them to continue to assist us.”
