Around town: Neighbours from Leith on postcode quiz

A GROUP of neighbours from Leith will appear on STV's quiz show Postcode Challenge this Friday hoping to scoop the big £25,000 jackpot.

The four team members - Mairi Gordon, Ross Salters, Beca Lipscombe and Susie Lowe - who are friends and have known each other for almost 20 years, will go head to head with a team from Wemyss Bay to battle it out for the big cash prize.

If the team wins, they will donate 500 to their chosen charity, Edinburgh Cat Protection League.

Morningside ready to turn on tree lights

A FESTIVE glow will be sparkling over Morningside next Thursday as the big Christmas lights switch-on gets under way.

Around 250 spectators are expected to gather at the Christmas Tree at Morningside Clock at 7.30pm on December 2.

A Salvation Army band will provide entertainment.

Residents should aim to arrive for the event up to an hour before the switch-on.

Scuba Santa at Deep Sea World

VISITORS to Deep Sea World in North Queensferry will be entertained over the festive period by a scuba Santa Claus.

The intrepid Father Christmas is braving shark-infested waters to deliver presents to the aquarium's team of divers, as well as handing out treats to fish.

Haggis with a spicy twisst

A RESTAURANT in the Capital has teamed up with Cobra beer to create the "Ha-ghee-ss" - a spicy take on the traditional haggis.

The Verandah Restaurant on Dalry Road will be serving the dish to diners in celebration of National Curry Week, which began yesterday and runs until Saturday.

New jobs at whisky plant

WHISKY industry veteran Billy Walker has unveiled plans to establish a new bottling line at the BenRiach plant at Newbridge.

The 500,000 investment will create ten further jobs at the site, taking the headcount at the plant to about 50 full-time staff. About 37 already work on the site.

Lantern procession to light way for community

A LANTERN procession will be held by The Friends of Dalmeny Street Park to encourage families in the area to get involved with community events.

Organisers say the event, held between 5pm-7pm on November 27, will encompass all aspects of art with face painting and willow lantern-making workshops, live music and Guerrilla Cinema.

Leading up to the event will be several workshops, with the works being displayed in the lantern procession on 27 November.
