Armed robber escapes with thousands

An ARMED robber escaped with a four-figure sum of money after a hold-up at a bank, police said yesterday.

The man went into a Glasgow branch of the Airdrie Savings Bank and threatened a 25-year-old female employee with what appeared to be a firearm, demanding money.

A four-figure sum was handed over as the young woman feared for her safety, before the robber then left.

Police have appealed for information about the incident, which happened at around 3.40pm on Wednesday at the bank, which is located on Glasgow Road in the city's Baillieston area.
