Armed gang tries to abduct Da Vinci rapist’s twin brother

THE identical twin of Da Vinci Code rapist Robert Greens has told how a gang tried to abduct him at gunpoint – then apologised when they realised they had the wrong man.

Richard Greens, 35, from Penicuik, said he was threatened by the gang in the presence of his wife, Lee, and his mother.

The father-of-five said the gang tried to force him into a van during the attempted abduction but then said sorry when he showed them his birth certificate.

Mr Greens said: “Guys in balaclavas jumped out of a van in the street and threatened me while my wife Lee and her mother were there.

“I could see what appeared to be a shotgun and they were trying to get me into a van. I showed them my birth certificate and they apologised.

“But they said this would keep happening until they got hold of my brother.”

Mr Greens said it is the latest case of mistaken identity to result in an attack and that he now carries his birth certificate everywhere to prove he is not his brother, who was freed from jail in January after serving six years for the rape of a 19-year-old Dutch student in 2005.

Greens, who had taken drink and drugs at the time of the attack, threw his victim 30 feet down an embankment near Rosslyn Chapel and subjected her to a prolonged sexual assault. She was beaten so violently she was almost unrecognisable.

His brother said he also carries his student card and has had a spider tattooed on his neck to prove his identity.

Mr Greens said he and his wife were forced to flee one home in Fort William after paint bombs were thrown at it. A petrol bomb was thrown at the couple’s subsequent home in Dalkeith.

In June, men in an Audi pulled up alongside him in Penicuik, where he now lives, and asked him which brother he was. They drove off when Mr Greens showed them his birth certificate.

Three months before that, Mr Greens said he suffered “a severe doing” at the hands of three men in a local park.

He said: “They jumped me. My face was an absolute mess.

“I am watching my back 24/7. I am scared all the time. Everywhere I go, all I hear is ‘beast, beast’. I was going to see my cousin in Penicuik and I could see kids running away from me.

“I was in a doctor’s surgery and pensioners were drawing back from me.

“I wish I could get a new face. My brother’s now got security, panic alarms and CCTV. The police won’t even give me a protective vest. I don’t have a life any more.”

Mr Greens’ wife, Lee, 32 said: “Robert’s a predator and I hate him. I wish he would die.”
