Archives see light of day at arts centre

Midlothian Libraries have prepared a new guide to Midlothian Council’s archive collection.

The guide will be launched at a free event to be held at Dalkeith Arts Centre at 10am on Saturday, March 24.

Gathered over the years by Midlothian Council, the archives contain a significant amount of historic material – everything from council minutes and school logbooks to valuation rolls and family and estate papers. The oldest items date from the 1700s.

The launch event will include a short talk about the archive collection. The event will also be used to consult the public about the future of the archive service – staff will welcome views and suggestions for improvements to the service.

Refreshments will be available and the meeting is open to anyone interested in Midlothian’s history and culture.
