Archive reels in films from last 40 years

The National Library of Scotland’s Scottish Screen Archive is looking for submissions of films and videos shot anywhere in Scotland over the last 40 years.

Among the films the organisation is particularly keen to find are those from community groups, cine/video clubs and promotional films for industries, charities and tourism.

Subjects they are particularly interested in include sport and leisure events, community events such as gala days and millennium celebrations, and footage depicting significant changes in local communities.

Kay Foubister, curator, said: “The advent of cheaper video cameras in the 1980s and 1990s made it easier for people to record local events.

“However, video has been replaced by newer technology and there is a danger that these tapes will be discarded. We want to prevent that happening.”
