Apple course bearing fruit for college

A CITY college has hosted an Apple-approved course in writing iPhone applications.

Twenty computing lecturers from across Scotland attended the event at Stevenson College and were given comprehensive classes covering all aspects of designing and programming applications for use on iPhones, iPads and iPods.

Applications for Apple products represent a major growth market, with more than 300,000 applications available for download through the App Store on Apple's website.

It is estimated that more than seven billion downloads have been made from the site since it opened in July 2008.

Debbie Meharg, computing lecturer at Stevenson, said: "In today's fast-moving computer market, it is vital for both students and professionals to be trained in the latest technological developments.

"We are keenly aware of this and are very proud to be able to offer training like this. This class has been hugely successful and we look forward to hosting similar events in the future."

The course was sponsored by Scotland's Colleges and was delivered by iPhone apps expert Gordon Eccleston from Robert Gordon University.
