Appeal after OAP knocked to ground in dog attack

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a pensioner was knocked to the ground in a dog attack in Dundee.

The 79-year-old man fell to the ground when his toy poodle dog was attacked by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier in Dundee’s Tannadice Street on Tuesday afternoon.

A spokeswoman for the Tayside Division of Police Scotland said today: “About 1.45pm a 79-year-old man was walking his toy poodle dog on the lead on the north pavement, near to the junction with Clepington Street, when a dark coloured Staffordshire bull terrier type dog ran towards his dog and attacked it, causing the elderly man to fall in the process. His pet poodle then broke free and ran off.

“Whilst the elderly man was lying on the pavement a woman was seen to walk over to the Staffordshire bull terrier and put it on a lead. She made off towards Court Street without stopping.”

She continued: “The elderly man was later reunited with his dog and the poodle was found to have sustained a number of puncture wounds and an injury to its shoulder. Thankfully, the elderly man was uninjured as a result of his ordeal.”

The woman is described as being between 30 and 39 years old with long black hair. She was wearing a brown jacket and dark coloured trousers. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier type dog had a studded collar.

The force spokeswoman said: “Anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who can identify the owner of the Staffordshire bull terrier type dog, should get in touch with Police Scotland Tayside Division on 101 or speak to any police officer.”
