A police spokesman said: "We are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Charteris Road who noticed anyone acting suspiciously there, to contact police immediately. Similarly, anyone who thinks they may have been offered stolen items for sale, or who has any other information that can assist our inquiries, should also get in touch.

"At this time we would remind local residents of the importance of home security, and to ensure that their doors and windows are securely locked while they are away from their property."
