Appeal after dog left in city stairwell

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a young dog was found dumped in an Edinburgh stairwell.

Residents at Buccleuch Street spotted the frightened Staffordshire bull terrier cross tied to the door handle of a ground floor flat on Thursday evening and alerted Scotland’s animal welfare charity.

The brindle and white male dog was taken to the charity’s Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre, in Balerno, where he has been named Cody.

Senior inspector John Toule said: “Concerned residents called us as Cody had been in the stairwell for over an hour and they did not recognise him.

“He is around one year old and in good condition so we think he has been someone’s pet until recently.

“Cody was left without any food or water.”
