A member of the public discovered the female cat inside a pet carrier in their household waste bin in Ness Drive, East Kilbride, on Sunday.

The feline is now in the care of the charity’s Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Hamilton, where she has been named Bridie.

Animal rescue officer Dawn Lowdon said: “The man who called us said he heard noises coming from his bin early on Saturday morning.

“He got a shock when he looked inside and found a cat carrier with Bridie inside.

“It’s unlikely Bridie had been in there long, although she would have undoubtedly been very scared.

“This was an extremely cruel thing to do. It’s only by chance Bridie was found and it was very lucky she was not emptied with the rest of the rubbish.

“We’ll continue to care for Bridie until we can find her the loving new home she deserves.”

Anyone who recognises Bridie is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
