Anger over Aegon cuts

Union leaders say they are "appalled" at the announcement by finance giant Aegon that it will cut more than 300 jobs in Edinburgh and Lancashire.

Unite national officer David Fleming said 213 jobs would disappear, a significant number being "offshored" to India, and a further 106 transferred in an outsourcing arrangement.

The firm has not yet detailed how many posts will go at each site. Aegon employs around 2500 at its two Gyle centres.

Mr Fleming said: "This decision will have a devastating impact on the workforce."
