Alexander lights up the room

Alexander Muir was guest of honour at Jenners last night when he switched on the Christmas lights.

The 13-year-old, who is being treated at the Sick Kids Hospital for a brain tumour, was invited to start the festive celebrations by switching on the 9500 lights on the Christmas tree at the Princes Street store.

It marks the end of a difficult year for the Braidburn School pupil, in which he underwent his fifth brain operation, leaving him unable to walk and with speech difficulties.

However, he hopes to be home for Christmas, joining his family in Musselburgh for the festivities after spending much of the year in hospital.
