Alcohol claim is rubbished

SUGGESTIONS that a minimum price for alcohol would only mean drinkers paying more – rather than reducing consumption – have been slammed by senior politicians.

The Institute of Fiscal Studies suggested earlier this week that plans to introduce minimum pricing would not have the desired effect.

Instead, its report stated, it would simply mean people being more out of pocket than they would have been without it.

The leader of the Liberal Democrats, Willie Rennie, said: “This report ignores the dreadful damage that alcohol abuse causes in communities and families across Scotland.”
