Air travel chaos: Better contingency plans needed to help the stranded

CHRISTINE MacAndie, a consultant surgeon at the Royal Alexandria Hospital in Paisley, has had to cancel clinics until Thursday after being stranded in Oslo with her husband and two children.

She believes better contingency plans should have been put into place to come to the aid of those left in limbo.

She said: "There does not seem to be any assistance for UK nationals – the embassy here is closed for the weekend.

"Surely the governments, along with the airlines – who know how many Britons are stranded and where – can co-ordinate alternative chartered ferries etc to get people back to the UK.

"Some contingency planning needs to come into force. Surely this cannot be left to continue indefinitely."
