Adventurers back city's Everest man

Stephen Green has already left the Capital for Nepal and will begin climbing the 8,848-metre high mountain within the next couple of weeks.

The 23-year-old is raising money for cancer charities following the death of his father Raymond from the illness.

Adventurer Sir Ranulph Fiennes, who in May 2009 at the age of 65 climbed to the summit of Mount Everest, said: "Stephen is an inspiring young man and I am proud to support Stephen on his adventure to the top of the world.

"I wish him the very best in his fundraising and future.

"Marie Curie is a vital charity involving anyone affected by cancer or other terminal illness and I would encourage everyone to donate what they can."
