Addicts sold drugs to fund own habits

A COUPLE who were addicted to heroin sold the drug to fellow users to subsidise their habits, a court has heard.

Kirsty Mackie, 32, and Kevin Gray, 36, were caught selling the class A narcotic from their home in Macbeth Moir Road, Musselburgh, East Lothian, by police on April 26.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard yesterday how officers raided their property after receiving an anonymous tip-off. Detectives found heroin with a potential street value of £4800. They also found £4015 in cash.

The court heard how the pair were selling heroin to pay for their habits.

Mackie and Gray, both prisoners of HMP Edinburgh, pleaded guilty to being involved in the supply of heroin before Sheriff Alistair Noble.

Depute procurator fiscal John Kirk told the court that Mackie had previous convictions for selling drugs.

Sheriff Noble jailed Mackie for two years and eight months.

Sentence on Gray was deferred until August 21 in order for the court to obtain reports.
