Addict's Champagne theft

A DRUG addict took a short cut to a Champagne lifestyle by stealing two bottles of bubbly from a shop, a court heard.

Scott McCord, 22, sold the bottles for less than half their value so he could buy 20 worth of heroin, Livingston Sheriff Court was told.

McCord, of Blackburn, West Lothian, yesterday pled guilty to shoplifting from Newyearfield Co-op in Livingston on October 1. John Barclay, prosecuting, said staff at the shop saw the accused hiding something under his jacket.

They approached him but he kept walking and escaped out of the main entrance.

Sentencing McCord to a 12-month Drug Treatment and Testing Order, Sheriff Martin Edington told him: "You will be tested at least once a month and the order will be reviewed each month at Livingston Sheriff Court."
