Accused man banned from entering Hawick

A MAN was banned yesterday from entering a Scottish Borders town after being accused of assault.

Roy Chilcott of Kelso, 44, appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court, charged with striking Christopher Hartegen on the head with an axe handle or similar implement.

Chilcott pleaded not guilty and was released on bail, with a condition that he does not enter Hawick. The charges follow a disturbance in Hawick’s Hillend Drive on Thursday.

Chilcott’s sister Tracy Laidlaw, 46, and a 17-year-old woman are charged with assaulting Kirsty Parker during the same disturbance. They also pleaded not guilty and were released on bail.
