POLICE Scotland have launched an investigation after a man was attacked in an Aberdeen housing estate by a group of masked thugs wielding hammers and baseball bats.

The man is said to have been viciously assaulted following an incident in which a white Ford Transit van was forced off the road by a Subaru Impreza.

Police Scotland have launched a major investigation into the incident on the city’s Provost Rust Drive on Sunday afternoon, but claims that the driver of the transit van had been abducted by the masked gang have already been dismissed by the force.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland has appealed for witnesses following a disturbance in the Provost Fraser Drive area of Aberdeen at around 3.05pm on Sunday.

“A white Ford Transit van was in collision with a lamp post. Immediately after the road accident a number of members of the public reported a disturbance in the area of the van and all those involved, including the driver of the van, left prior to Police arrival.

“Provost Fraser Drive was closed for several hours while enquiries were carried out at the scene and the vehicle was recovered.”

Detective Inspector Stewart Sloan, who is heading the investigation, said: “A disturbance took place and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. Anyone who has witnessed this incident is asked to come forward.

“Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if they wish to remain anonymous.”
