9am Briefings: Newlywed, 78, in mourning as husband dies on honeymoon

A 78-year-old newlywed bride is in mourning after her 76-year-old husband collapsed and died on their honeymoon, it was reported today.

Jim and Jean McArthur married earlier this month after a whirlwind romance and were holidaying in Lanzarote when Mr McArthur is thought to have suffered an aneurysm.

• THE proposed Borders rail link project has been thrown into doubt after construction giant Carillion withdrew from one of the two remaining consortia bidding to build the line. The link, from Edinburgh to Galashiels, has already been delayed by three years to 2014. The other partners in the IMCD consortium have just months to find a replacement for Carillion.

• THE new tram-train interchange at Gogar will be built even if Edinburgh's tram scheme is shelved.

Transport Minister Keith Brown said the station, which would allow train travellers to switch to a tram to get to Edinburgh airport, was still part of the 1 billion improvement programme for the Edinburgh-Glasgow rail line.

• POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a suspicious fire at a derelict house in Burdiehouse Road last night. The blaze was reported at around 3.30am and firefighters worked until 5.20am to extinguish it.
