9am Briefing: City student dies in climbing accident

A University of Edinburgh student has died in a climbing accident in the French Alps.

Nineteen-year-old Robbie Cammack and a friend got lost while climbing on the north face of the Aiguille du Midi. Poor weather meant a rescue helicopter had to turn back, and while the pair awaited rescue, Mr Cammack is reported to have slipped from the belay holding him in place and fallen to his death. • A 12-year-old boy was taken to the Sick Kids Hospital last night after burning his hands at Tranent Juniors Football Club. The boy was injured after fire broke out in a cupboard in the main stand. He is understood to have touched the hot metal door. In a separate incident, firefighters had to lead two women to safety after a pan of food caught fire in a first floor flat in Sighthill Avenue at around 11.30pm last night. They were not injured.

• The Edinburgh International Film Festival could consider holding events in August, it is reported today. The festival, which begins officially tonight, is said to be considering the move to boost its income and capitalise on audiences visiting for the Capital's other summer festivals.
