9am Briefing: Calls for Green Investment bank to be based in Capital

THE leaders of Edinburgh and Glasgow councils have written to Business Secretary Vince Cable arguing for the UK’s Green Investment Bank to be sited in the Capital.

The letter, signed by Edinburgh Council Leader Jenny Dawe and Glasgow Council leader Gordon Matheson argues that the Capital has a reputation as “a centre of expertise in finance” and that Scotland as a whole would benefit from siting it in Edinburgh.

The driver, thought to be in his fifties, escaped the incident with only cuts and bruises, emergency services confirmed this morning.

That is despite the fact the vehicle he was driving weighed 30 tonnes.

The incident took place at Easter Howgate, near Penicuik, shortly before 7pm last night.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said today: “The male casualty was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.”

* THE National Museum of Scotland has had more than a million visitors since it reopened at the end of July. The millionth visitor arrived shortly after the doors opened yesterday.

Museum director Gordon Rintoul said: “Our biggest ever previous attendance for the whole site was 833,324 visitors.

“Getting more than a million in the first year would still have been a 20 per cent increase, but the reaction we’ve had from the public has been quite immense.”
