9am Briefing: 75-year-old in hospital after kitchen fire

A 75 year-old-man was taken to hospital yesterday after a fire in his kitchen in Muirhouse Bank.

Firefighters were called after a pan of oil caught light in the man's kitchen at around 7.10pm.

He tried to move the pan to the sink, but oil splashed and set fire to the curtains.

Firefighters treated the man with oxygen for slight smoke inhalation. He was taken to the ERI as a precaution.

• A MAN had to be rescued after falling down a 20-metre drop at a castle.

Fourteen firefighters and the ambulance service were called in to rescue the 45-year-old man from the bottom of an embankment at Dalhousie Castle in Bonnyrigg. Firefighters were needed because of the steepness of the slope.

The man suffered a suspected broken leg and cuts after the fall, which happened at around 10pm last night.

• FORMER Rangers owner Sir David Murray has married his long-term sweetheart in a private ceremony.

The multi-millionaire, who lives in Edinburgh, married photographer Kae Tinto, 39, in Perthshire following their engagement in 2006.
