60 volunteers join search for missing man

MORE than 60 volunteers have been helping further searches for a man who went missing after leaving a dance.

Teams including police divers, search and rescue dogs, coastguard and RAF mountain rescue team crews have all been searching the area around Dornoch in the Highlands where Lachlan Simpson was last seen leaving the show dance at 1.30am on Sunday.

It is believed the 22-year-old, from Embo, left the dance and headed towards Tain.

Today’s search, which also involved the police helicopter, saw volunteers splitting into groups before searching the local area as well as carrying out leaflet drops asking residents to check their outbuildings and sheds.

Chief inspector Iain MacLelland said: “Police and partners have once more been overwhelmed by the tremendous response and assistance provided by the community.

People have travelled from across Scotland to assist and we are very thankful to everyone who is dedicating their time to help.

“Further searches are taking place this afternoon with the deployment of the police helicopter and divers to search areas of more challenging terrain.”

Mr Simpson is described as 6ft, of slim/medium build and with short fair hair. He was wearing a green and white top.
