21 in hospital after chemical spill

A chemical spill at a warehouse in Livingston has left at least 21 in hospital.

Emergency services were called to the leak at the Palletways distribution centre in the West Lothian town, which occurred at around 8.15am this morning.

Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue service confirmed 21 people had been taken to St John’s Hospital after the incident.

The substance involved is said to be Denatonium Benzoate, which is used as an aversive agent to prevent people swallowing inedible liquids such as soaps and shampoos.
