11-year-old injured in 12ft fall from roof

AN 11-YEAR-OLD boy was rushed to hospital with suspected spinal injuries last night after falling 12 feet from the roof of a community centre.

The youngster had apparently climbed onto the roof of the Jack Kane Community Centre on Niddrie Marischal Road to retrieve a football just after 7pm last night.

While on the roof he slipped and fell onto concrete in a narrow section behind the building.

A crew from Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service had to be called out to cut through a section of fence to allow ambulance personnel to treat him.

After being assessed at the scene he was rushed to the Sick Kid's Hospital with suspected spinal injuries.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said: "It appears he had been trying to get a football from the roof, and when he fell he hit some concrete slabs.

"It was in quite an awkward spot so we were called out to cut away a section of the fence so he could be safely removed and treated by ambulance staff."
