PRINCE Edward yesterday officially open Stirling University's new £11.5 million library - and admitted he never got any work done in the library when he studied at university.

The Cambridge-educated Earl of Wessex told how, as a history student, he would visit the famous Seeley Historical Library.

But he rarely studied in the 204-year-old room as its open design allowed him to eyeball friends with ease, and they would go for coffee instead.

He said: "I went to Cambridge where we had the Seeley Library, and it had one unfortunate design flaw. For people watching it was the best place."

Edward met staff, students and donors an a tour of Stirling University's new facility.
