And he’s asked supporters to continue backing the player as Wednesday seek to escape relegation near the bottom of the English Championship.

He said to them through the Sheffield Star: “Please don’t harbour your frustrations on the boy. He’s a Wednesday fan that is committed to the club and it’s a situation that’s happened.

“He still has a part to play for this team for the remainder of the season. What’s gone on has gone on, it’s all about the here and now, and we need to all focus on that.

“The boy is really committed to the club, and you’ve seen the commitment that he’s shown in the games he’s played. I don’t think that’s affecting him in any way.

“He’s a fan of the club, the family has got huge respect and loyalties towards the club, and he’s no different. Every time he pulls on a Wednesday shirt, he’s committed to the cause.

“He’s a great human being, I’ve spoken to him, and he’s a top young talented player. He’ll continue to work and give his all for this club.”
