Livingston 0 - 1 St Johnstone: How the players rated in the Betfred Cup final

The Perth Saints won the League Cup final for the first time in their history thanks to Shaun Rooney’s wonderful first-half header.

Callum Davidson’s men were the better side throughout as they wrote their name into St Johnstone history helped by a number of key performers at Hampden Park.

It means they have won both major domestic cups in the past eight years, only Celtic are the other team to have done so.

It was a desperately poor afternoon for Livingston who weren’t the threat they have been so far under David Martindale with a number of this season’s key performers turning in a performance fans are used to seeing.

So how did the 26 players used rate out of ten?

LIVINGSTON

Robby McCrorie - 7

Got a hand to Rooney’s header but it was too well placed and too powerful for the goalkeeper to keep it out. Made a brilliant instinctive save from Wotherspoon.

Nicky Devlin - 6

A couple of really positive runs forward and one of Livi’s bigger threats.

Efe Ambrose - 5

Blazed an early effort way over the bar. Had had one moment where he was almost robbed on the edge of his box.

Jon Guthrie - 5

Held off by Rooney for the winning game. Not as dominant as he has been since joining the club.

Julien Serrano - 6

Had a key early block and a very good interception in the 26th minute. Perhaps needed to add more in an attacking sense.

Joshua Mullin - 5

Forced Zander Clark into a brilliant save after an excellent effort. But that was his only telling impact in the final third.

Jason Holt - 5

Bustled around and tried to get things going for Livingston but was bettered by his St Johnstone opponents.

Steve Lawson - 5

Many expected the Togolese ace to start on the left but took a central role. Worked hard but not a huge influence. Could have dropped on to the post for the Rooney goal.

Scott Pittman - 5

Been a huge presence for Livingston over a number of years but was nowhere near the standard he has set during his time with the club. Those supporting runs in the final third weren't on show.

Marvin Bartley - 4

Asked to play a very unfamiliar role and struggled against Shaun Rooney. His struggles were best seen when Craig Conway sped away from him down the left just before the hour mark. Stayed there until the 70th minute.

Scott Robinson - 6

Put in a power of work but had little support. Helped create Livi’s best chance with his excellent pest-like work.

Craig Sibbald - 5

Couldn’t bring control to the Livi midfield after coming on.

Allan Forrest - 6

Was lively when moved to the left.

Gavin Reilly - 5

No impact.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas - 5

Wasteful and poor decision making.

ST JOHNSTONE

Zander Clark - 8

Brilliant early fingertip save from Mullin’s effort. Crucial in the context of the game. Wasn’t tested enough from a Livi point of view.

Jason Kerr - 8

A real captain’s performance. Took up some brilliant positions to cut out low crosses and moved forward with purpose.

Liam Gordon - 7

A solid display as the stopper in the middle of the defence. Was given a tough time early on by Robinson but won the battle.

Jamie McCart - 7

A defender who is very easy on the eye. Cultured and reads the game well. Nearly scored.

Shaun Rooney - 9

An incredible athlete. So confident and direct made him a huge threat throughout. Became a legend with the winning header.

Ali McCann - 6

Quiet in the first half as the ball bounced and bobbled all around the park. His driving runs became more prominent in the second half.

Liam Craig - 7

Brought experience to the middle of the park. Battled well, won second balls and protected the defence.

Callum Booth - 6

A good intervention to stop Mullin in the first half. He balanced Rooney’s influence on the right with a solid defensive outing.

Craig Conway - 7

Selection more than justified with his set-piece prowess being important, his corner headed in by Rooney. A fine disguised pass set up Ali McCann to create a brilliant chance after the interval.

David Wotherspoon - 6

Produced some lovely technical moments and worked hard. Let himself down after tumbling easily in the box following a brilliant nutmeg on Guthrie.

Chris Kane - 8

Excellent. Aside from wayward pass on the break late on, he was absolutely fantastic. Worked so hard, was a constant nightmare for the Livi defence, leading the line and bringing team-mates into the game.

Stevie May - 6

On to add a freshness in the final third and on the break.
