WOMEN are increasingly ditching the gym and exercising outdoors, according to a poll of physically active women.

A poll of 1,000 women, which was carried out for Shock Absorber exercise bras, found the number of people opting for “green” exercise has risen by half, 52 per cent, over the last few years.

The rise has coincided with a rise in outdoor gyms in city parks, as well as a boom in popularity for boot camp-style work-outs.

Dr Jo Barton, a lecturer in sports and exercise science at Essex University, said it was proven that exercising outdoors made people feel more positive than doing so inside.

She said: “Green exercise offers unique benefits compared to working out indoors.”
