5. Glenapp Castle
Glenapp Castle is a beautiful Scots Baronial castle set in 36 acres of stunning gardens and woodland overlooking the Ayrshire coastline to Ailsa Craig, the Isle of Arran and Mull of Kintyre. The country house hotel has won numerous awards, including a restaurant which has a sought-after Michelin star. MrGeorgie: "We stayed for one night at Glenapp and had dinner in the sumptuous dining room with its amazing views over the coast. Everything about the hotel was first class: our suite; public areas; dinner; and breakfast. The staff were very efficient, welcoming and knowledgable. We will return for a longer stay."

Guests can enjoy fine dining at the Torrish Restaurant. lgkeegan said: "Our stay at Ness Walk in Inverness could not have been better. From the wonderful welcome, when we were ushered into comfy couches in front of a fire with glasses of champagne and didnt leave for two hours, to the beautiful rooms and incomparable food."

DoubleD1969 said: "After almost three years of not travelling, we splurged on a night at Prestonfield for our first night in Edinburgh. All the superlatives are correct. Beautiful grounds. Richly decorated. Helpful staff."
