More than two million holidaymakers have used Pitchup.com in the last year to book their perfect pitch in advance, submitting over 159,000 reviews of what they have experienced.
They have rated aspects including location, value for money, quality of accommodation, activities and cleanliness, out of 10. Site had to have a minimum of 20 reviews to be considered for the list of the best.

5. Woodland Gardens Caravan Site, Leven, Fife
This adults-only site with views over the Firth of Forth all the way to Edinburgh has many desirable qualities that make it deserving of its 9.9 rating. The Lower Largo beach and Fife Coastal Path just a mile away; and historic St Andrews is within easy reach in 25 minutes by car. Well-maintained and dog-friendly, the site also boasts a well-equipped recreation room. The peaceful site prides itself on maintaining high quality through great attention to detail, and the team’s dedication has been rewarded with an well-deserved 9.9 rating. 6. Muasdale Holiday Park, Muasdale, Argyll & Bute
Muasdale is a small, peaceful and family-run park midway between Tarbert and Campbeltown, and in a coastal locale of splendid scenery, right on the beach with striking vistas over to the islands of Islay, Jura and Gigha. The ferries are a short drive from the site for days of island-hopping; you can even get over to Ballycastle and Northern Ireland for the day via the Isle of Islay. This is wildlife and birdwatching heaven, with seals, otters and springtime nesting birds on the beach, more seals in the surrounding waters, and many a seabird overhead. Supplies can be picked up at two large supermarkets in Campbeltown or at the village shop in Muasdale, which is well stocked with essentials. The local bus stop 100 yards from the site runs to Campbeltown and Tarbert Taynloan to meet up with the Gigha ferry, or Kennacraig to meet up with the Islay ferry; this is also the main bus to Glasgow. 7. Castle Point Caravan Site, Dumfries & Galloway
Rockcliffe’s Castle Point Caravan Site, a short stroll from the sea and within easy ambling distance of three sandy beaches – and with some of the best views in the area. Which for Scotland is saying quite a lot. On site, there's a laundry room with washing machines and dryers, plus washing-up areas, a lockable bike shed, a drying room for wet clothes, a play area for the kids and a barbecue area with seating. 8. Linwater Caravan Park, West Calder, West Lothian
East Calder's Linwater Caravan Park is within a five-mile drive of Edinburgh Airport and is next to the trunk roads of the M8 and M9 – thus making it straightforward to stop over here on your way to and fro north or south. But you'd also be well placed to stay a bit longer. Linwater's in a countryside location, right next to Almondell and Calderwood Country Park and the Union Canal (for towpath strolls) and is also a short drive from the Pentland Hills Regional Park. The Edinburgh International Climbing Arena is only a mile away. All at Linwater is ably run by Katie and Alaistair, who've added a toilet block including a disabled loo, showers, a dishwashing area, laundry facilities and waste disposal for tourers and motorhomes.
