5. Fingal
One of the quirkiest hotels in Scotland completes the top five. Fingal is a former Northern Lighthouse Board ship, after a £5million refurb. now offers beautiful cabins, dining and entertaining space. Developed by The Royal Yacht Britannia, Fingal’s 23 luxury cabins are each named after Stevenson lighthouses, inspired by her rich maritime heritage. Jkelleher said: "There's nothing quite like this as a place to stay! The combination of the luxurious appointments with the effort that has been made to maintain the character of the ship leads to a truly wonderful ambience. The staff are exceptional, the drinks are great (did not try the food) and the attention to detail is second to none."

6. Carradales Luxury Guest House
Located in Campbeltown, Carradales Luxury Guest House is a traditionally built Victorian detached house, originally built as a Church of Scotland Manse in 1880. Completely refurbished, Carradales offers licensed luxury 5 Star guesthouse accommodation. JANET C said: "I spent two evenings at Carradales. The hosts were extremely welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. My room was spotlessly clean and the food was outstandingly good. It was an absolute pleasure to stay there in such comfortable and pleasant surroundings."

The top choice for travellers in Fife is Balmule House. The hotel has roots and features that stretch back over 500 years yet has a dramatically transformed interior, designed and crafted with every modern convenience. Set amidst 30 acres of grounds just north of Dunfermline, the ancient Capital of Scotland, Balmule House provides the highest standards of luxury accommodation in opulent surroundings. Alex M said: "For the second year in a row our family have booked and gathered at the fantastic Balmule House. All our needs were catered for and more. Beautifully decorated with all rooms made individual."

Tigh Na Cloich House is a beautiful family-run guesthouse in the heart of the Highlands. Situated in Pitlochry town centre, it is set back enough to enjoy the tranquillity and the most amazing panoramic views. Sheona M said: "What a fabulous place. Warm and very welcoming hosts. Beautiful room with amazing view, very comfy bed and beautiful en-suite shower room. Fab breakfast choices, with food cooked to order - pancakes yummy. Would highly recommend and will definitely be our 1st choice of place to stay when stopping over in Pitlochry."
